Protein identification with Protein Pilot™ Software

Protein identification techniques which are essentially peptide identification/correlation techniques, have improved significantly over time. Edman degradation, the preferred technique for many years was simple and very powerful but it was very slow, since it identified one protein at a time. To identify one protein ID in a 60 min gradient would take about seven hours. Compare that to identification done using mass spectrometry routines; it can identify 10 – 50 Proteins in 30 minutes.

Some of the popular mass spectrometry protein identification techniques are peptide mass fingerprinting, sequence tag identification and ms/ms peptide identification. In ms/ms peptide identification a peptide is broken up using a mass spectrometer and the fragment ion masses are then used to search a sequence database.

There is intense competition among companies that operate in the mass spectrometry space to be the best at protein identification but with a vastly simplified user interface and the power to search for hundreds of modifications simultaneously, the Protein Pilot™ Software, developed by Absciex sets a new standard for quality and quantity of results in protein identification and biomarker discovery. The system is powerful, easy to use and provides tools to help you search, identify, and analyze hundreds of proteins and quickly find the information you need. Key features of Protein Pilot™ Software are:-

1. Tag-based probabilistic approach:
Search for hundreds of modifications and variants without an explosion of false positives using the innovative Paragon™ algorithm.

2. Robust protein reporting:
Determine and report the number of proteins and isoforms actually detected, including ambiguity among multiple accessions with the industry leading Pro Group™ Algorithm.

3. Integrated, rigorous false discovery rate (FDR) analysis:
Analyze the specificity and quality of your results at the highest level with decoy database searching.

Targeted, hypothesis driven protein/peptide quantitation using MRM (Multiple Reaction Monitoring) enables you to detect and measure hundreds of proteins in a given experiment at high sensitivity.

Protein Pilot™ Software has changed the protein identification and peptide quantitation paradigm. One doesn’t have to specify details like mass tolerances, individual modifications, expected fragment ion types, or exceptions to cleavage rules. Simply enter the sample information you know, and the algorithm automatically optimizes the settings.

The Protein Pilot™ Software user interface is very easy to view and navigate through protein identification and quantitation results. The Protein ID view displays the proteins detected and the protein-peptide associations for each protein group, including the raw MS/MS spectrum and matching peaks. The Protein Quant view displays each measured protein ratio color-coded by P-value, so one can quickly see changes in expression levels.

Protein Pilot™ Software includes an automatic false discovery rate (FDR) analysis that gives you a rigorous defense of the quality of your results, using both conventional FDR analysis as well as novel extensions. If your typical workflow is gel-based analysis, you can submit PMF and PMF-combined searches on TOF/TOF data to Mascot for identification of gel spots.

It has ultimate flexibility and control as you can search data from any instrument. Protein Pilot™ FDR analysis supports instruments from several manufacturers. An open parameter control function allows you to add support for instruments not already included. A translation file is also available for accessing parameters such as new modifications, instrument settings, and digests agents.

I love airplanes and i would like to know what IT career should i study to work in airplanes?

Hello i heard people saying that airports have people who work in airplanes software or fixing airplanes relate to software development.Which career should i study to work on airplanes software? also i would like some career that offer another fields? i don’t want to be pilot but i believe an IT career will bring me closer to airplanes :) i really love them!

thanks a lot

IT software development doesn’t fix airplanes, they are part of building them. You would need a manufacturer like Boeing. Aircraft maintenance related to software is not done on the planes they just swap computers so the down time is minimized. ATC software for the tower won’t get you near the planes since the software development happens at the developers site.
~
Get into avionics if you want a field that will let you work on airplanes. But most of the work is box swapping.

  19. One thing I’d really like to comment on is that weightloss routine fast can be carried out by the appropriate diet and exercise. Someone’s size not merely affects the look, but also the complete quality of life. Self-esteem, major depression, health risks, and also physical skills are influenced in putting on weight. It is possible to just make everything right but still gain. Should this happen, a condition may be the reason. While an excessive amount food and not enough work out are usually at fault, common medical conditions and trusted prescriptions might greatly add to size. Many thanks for your post in this article.

Thanks for giving your ideas with this blog. Also, a myth regarding the financial institutions intentions when talking about foreclosures is that the financial institution will not getreceive my payments. There is a certain amount of time that the bank will need payments in some places. If you are also deep inside hole, they’ll commonly require that you pay the actual payment fully. However, i am not saying that they will have any sort of installments at all. In the event you and the financial institution can be capable to work a little something out, the foreclosure process may stop. However, if you ever continue to pass up payments wih the new program, the property foreclosure process can pick up exactly where it was left off.

  26. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
